How to Choose the Perfect Romantic Hotel
Not every "romantic" hotel truly is. Here's how to avoid making the wrong choice.
The mattress: the foundation of everything
40% of the romantic hotel experience depends on sleep quality. A poor mattress ruins any atmosphere. Before booking, look for specific reviews mentioning the bed. Keywords to search on TripAdvisor: "comfortable bed", "mattress", "slept wonderfully". If you can't find any mention of the bed in 50 reviews, that's a red flag.
Soundproofing: the privacy you don't expect
Hotels in historic town centres and medieval villages have walls 60–80 cm thick — perfect natural soundproofing. Modern hotels built in the 1970s–90s are often terrible. Look for properties in restored historic buildings, villas, farmhouses or secluded resorts.
Red flags: "you can hear neighbouring rooms", "bar music", "road traffic".

How to read reviews as a couple
Look for reviews from honeymooning couples or anniversary stays — these are the most detailed when it comes to romance. Filter on Booking.com for "Couples" in the reviews section. Read recent negative reviews: they often reveal structural issues that marketing hides.
