Greece
Honeymoon in Greece: Santorini vs Mykonos
Pillow & Passion 6 min read
The question every couple asks themselves at least once in their lives.
Santorini
- Oia sunset — the most photographed in the world
- Private pools with caldera views
- Romantic and intimate atmosphere
- Exclusive boutique hotels
- Very crowded in summer
- High prices
- Limited nightlife
Mykonos
- Beach clubs and nightlife
- Crystal-clear sea
- Cosmopolitan and international
- Not designed for romance
- Noisy at night
- Very high prices for lesser quality
- Less suited to couples seeking peace
The verdict for couples
Santorini wins hands down for honeymoons and romantic weekends. The caldera, the white-washed houses of Oia, the sunsets and the boutique hotels with private pools create an atmosphere like nowhere else. Mykonos is for those who want parties, beach clubs and nightlife — a great destination for a group of friends, but not for a romantic getaway.
When to go
June and September are the golden months: fewer crowds than August, perfect temperatures (26–28°C), slightly lower prices. Avoid August if you can: Santorini in August sees 30,000 tourists a day on an island with 15,000 residents.
